Math Quiz on Monday, February 27

Quiz on Circumference, Radius, Diameter , Area of a Parallelogram and Area of a Triangle.

Students need to know the formulas as well as Pi (3.14)

1) La distance du centre du cercle  à un point sur le cercle est le rayon. (Symbole pour rayon est r)

6) Le symbole, π, est une lettre grecque qui se prononce  “pi”.  Cela représente le nombre 3,141592653589… 

*  C’est un nombre irrationnel parce que c’est un nombre décimal qui ne se répète jamais et qui ne se finit jamais. Nous estimations  π  =  3,14

7) Puisque le diamètre =  2 × rayon, on peut aussi utiliser l’équation suivante pour trouver la circonférence:   C  =  π  ×  2r   ou     C  =  2 π r

8) Parallélogramme = un quadrilatère (à 4 côtés) où les côtés opposés sont parallèles.   

9) L’Aire d’un Parallélogramme = base × hauteur 
                                    A = b × h     ou       A = bh
10) La hauteur et le base d’un parallélogramme sont perpendiculaires à 900.
11) Chaque triangle est   1  l’aire d’un parallélogramme

13) Comme un parallélogramme, le base et la hauteur du triangle doit être perpendiculaire et l’aire aux unités carrés. ex: 78,5 cm2

Grade 9 Religion - Social Justice Presentations due February 28

Students had two classes in the Computer lab to work with a partner on a presentation on Social Justice.

These presentations will be given on February 28th in class.

Grade 9 Religion Social Justice Media Analysis Project
For this project you and a partner will be expected select a piece of media related to Social Justice, analyze its content/ message and present it in class. You may choose ANY type of media (i.e. book, movie or movie clip, television show or clip, magazine article, newspaper article, photograph, music video, song, etc.). This information card must accompany a 2-3 minute presentation of your findings. 
Topics:
Peace Keeping, Child Poverty, Rwanda, Food Banks, Habitat for Humanity, Child Soldiers, Slave Labour, or a topic approved by your teacher.

Grade 7 Religion - Project Due February 23, 2012 on World Religions

Students worked for three classes in the Learning Resource Center in groups on several World Religions.

The finished project is due on February 23, 2012.

Grade 7 Religion
World Religions – Research Project / Presentation

For this project, students will work in groups of four to research information about one of the following major world religions:  Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, or Aboriginal Spirituality
Your group may present your information in the form of a PowerPoint presentation, brochure, poster, or information foldable.
Each person in the group is responsible for finding and presenting the following information:
·         Person 1
o   Statistics & population - include a world population map of the religion, statistics on Newfoundland population of the religion, places of worship (worldwide and Newfoundland), when the religion started (worldwide and Newfoundland), key people (worldwide and Newfoundland)
·         Person 2
o   Sacred texts, symbols, music, & foods - examples of symbols, a sample recipe, rules relating to foods, titles of texts, examples of songs, etc…
·         Person 3  
o   Guiding principles & Spiritual beliefs - include worship practices, values, central beliefs & teachings, origin/creation stories, rules to live by, etc…
·         Person 4
o   Traditions - include religious festivals, holy days, celebrations, ceremonies, rituals & rites of passage
